Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
- Ability to accurately interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa
- Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with educators, students, and families
- Flexibility to adapt to various grade levels and student needs
- National or state interpreter certification preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time ASL interpretation for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
- Support teachers of American Sign Language by interpreting lessons or facilitating communication for students
- Ensure students have equal access to curriculum and school resources
- Foster understanding and awareness of Deaf culture within the school community
- Maintain professional and ethical standards of interpreting
