Step into a rewarding contract position as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a vibrant high school student who is active in their school community and passionate about football. This full-time opportunity offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule, with approximately 37.5 hours per week from 8 AM to 3:30 PM. You'll play a vital role in enriching this student's learning experience, ensuring full accessibility during both academic classes and extracurricular activities.
Key Qualifications/Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreting in educational settings
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a K-12 or high school environment
- Comfortable adapting to dynamic classroom and school environments, including sports and extracurricular activities
- Ability to foster communication and engagement for students with hearing differences
- Professional certification or equivalent credentials for educational interpreting (if required by state or district)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person sign language interpretation for a high school student throughout the school day
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, peers, and faculty during lessons, assemblies, and school events
- Interpret in a variety of settings—classroom, gymnasium, and on the football field—supporting inclusion during both instructional and extracurricular periods
- Collaborate with school staff to address specific needs and modifications for the student’s academic and social participation
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times according to school policies and interpreter ethics
