This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to work closely with an energetic student who is highly engaged in both academics and athletics. You'll play a vital role in ensuring clear communication and equal access to classroom instruction and related activities.
Position Highlights:
- Full-time schedule, approximately 37.5 hours per week
- Typical work hours: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM, aligning with the school day
- Serve as a bridge between Deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their hearing peers and educators
- Provide interpretation for an active high school student who participates in classroom activities as well as extracurriculars like football
Desired Experience & Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience interpreting in a school setting, ideally at the high school level
- Comfortable facilitating communication in both classroom and athletic environments
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Ability to adapt to changing classroom settings, including academic and extracurricular contexts
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language for student during lessons, group activities, and school events
- Support full student participation in both academic classes and extracurricular activities, including sporting events
- Facilitate communication between teachers, staff, students, and families as needed
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive school atmosphere
- Assist with preparation of instructional materials when required
