Make a meaningful difference in students’ lives as a Sign Language Interpreter with expertise in educational settings. Work near Gretna, LA, in a full-time contract role supporting hearing-impaired students from ASAP through the end of May 2027. This position partners closely with the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support Unit to deliver comprehensive educational services across multiple schools (assignments to be determined).
What You’ll Do:
- Provide IEP-directed educational support to hearing-impaired students, maximizing their learning potential in resource and inclusion settings
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to prepare teaching materials and assessments tailored for students with hearing impairments
- Identify student needs and coordinate access to auditory equipment and instructional materials
- Deliver in-service training to school personnel, fostering a positive, inclusive school environment
- Maintain accurate records, including IEPs, progress notes, quarterly reports, and student records
- Troubleshoot and assist with equipment for hearing-impaired students, such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices
- Perform additional duties as assigned by program leadership
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired required
- Three or more years of experience educating hearing-impaired students in mainstream settings
- Proficient in sign language and basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Experience collaborating with diverse school teams and effectively training others
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities with professionalism
- Ability to pass district-required fingerprinting and drug screening
