Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Harvey, LA

Step into a vital role supporting students with hearing impairments in a dynamic educational environment. This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to impact lives while working closely with dedicated school staff and families. You’ll report to the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support Unit and collaborate across classrooms to facilitate learning and growth for hearing-impaired students.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired specialty
- Minimum three years’ experience teaching hearing-impaired students in regular education environments
- Proficiency in basic sign language and effective communication skills in diverse settings
- Expertise in managing and troubleshooting equipment such as cochlear implants, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices
- Solid computer skills for maintaining IEPs, progress notes, school records, and reports
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, able to use data for informed decisions
- Collaborative style and cultural competence to work with a diverse range of school stakeholders
- High professionalism, organizational skills, and good judgment when managing responsibilities
- Successful completion of required fingerprinting and drug screening before starting
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver IEP-directed educational services to hearing-impaired students, supporting their goals in resource and regular education settings
- Engage with teachers and school personnel to identify and support students’ individual needs
- Request and manage specialized materials and auditory equipment
- Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers regarding instructional materials and assessments
- Develop and provide in-service training to faculty for positive integration of hearing-impaired students
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports, parent correspondence, and student documentation
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Coordinator
