To be successful in this position, you should have:
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school environments
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- An EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.0 or higher
- Either an active Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting in schools or an application in process
- A compassionate, flexible approach to student needs
- Strong interpersonal skills working with educators and parents
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing direct interpreting services for an elementary student in a self-contained classroom
- Facilitating clear, accurate communication between the student, educators, and peers
- Ensuring appropriate language and cultural mediation to support full classroom participation
- Working alongside the educational team to address individual learning goals
- Maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating professionalism in all interactions
- Adapting interpreting techniques to align with student progress and classroom routines
