POSITION DETAILS

• Contract Dates: August 3, 2026 – May 21, 2027
• Hours: Full-Time | 37.5 hours per week
• Schedule: Monday through Friday
• Pay: Competitive, based on experience

WHAT YOU'LL DO
------------------
• Facilitate clear and accurate communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students and hearing individuals in the educational setting
• Translate spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL to spoken English in real time across classroom, hallway, and school-wide settings
• Support D/HH students during instruction, meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
• Collaborate with special education teachers, audiologists, and school staff to ensure full access to curriculum and school programming
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
• Provide culturally sensitive and linguistically accurate interpretation that respects the Deaf community and individual student needs

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Required:
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrated interpreting experience
• Knowledge of and commitment to professional interpreting ethics and confidentiality standards
• Ability to work full-time, Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Preferred:
• RID certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent) or Kansas state interpreting credentials
• Prior experience as a school-based or educational sign language interpreter
• Familiarity with IEP processes and D/HH educational programming
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with students, families, and staff
