Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Kenner, Louisiana
Step into a dynamic contract opportunity supporting hearing-impaired students in the New Orleans area for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday) places you as an integral support to students, classroom teachers, and the broader educational team, ensuring that every hearing-impaired learner accesses their full potential.
Working under the guidance of the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support Unit, you’ll deliver individualized educational services to resource-level students in diverse school environments. Your day-to-day involves meaningful instruction, collaborating with teachers, and championing the integration of hearing-impaired students within regular classrooms. You’ll also play a pivotal role in requesting and troubleshooting auditory equipment, maintaining critical documentation, and offering in-service training sessions to school staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired Education (required)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience instructing hearing-impaired students in general education settings
- Demonstrated skill in sign language as well as proficiency in using and troubleshooting equipment such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices
- Strong communicator, adept at building rapport, inspiring positivity, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, using both quantitative and qualitative data to guide decisions
- High degree of professionalism and organizational discipline, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
- Skilled in document management and data reporting, including IEPs, progress notes, and school records
- Must successfully pass required district credentialing, including fingerprints and drug screening
