As an Itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, you’ll collaborate closely with classroom teachers and the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism to deliver individualized education and facilitate an inclusive learning environment. Your expertise will have a direct impact on student outcomes while contributing to a culture of understanding and acceptance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver IEP-driven educational services to hearing impaired students across assigned schools and age groups.
- Consult with regular education teachers to tailor instructional materials and assessments.
- Identify, request, and manage auditory equipment suitable for students’ needs.
- Maintain consistent communication with classroom educators, providing resources and support.
- Offer in-service training to school staff, promoting positive interactions and inclusion.
- Maintain thorough documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, and school records.
- Troubleshoot and operate specialized equipment such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Student Support Unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teaching certification for Hearing Impaired required.
- At least 3 years’ experience working with hearing impaired students in integrated education settings.
- Strong sign language skills and proficiency in technology and data management.
- Effective communicator, collaborative leader, and adept problem-solver.
- Ability to adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced educational environment.
- Successful completion of fingerprinting and drug screening required.
