This onsite, contract position involves providing one-on-one sign language interpreting services for an elementary student in the Huntsville, AL area. This position is available for immediate start, offering 37.5 hours per week within a welcoming school environment. Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working in educational settings highly preferred
- Ability to provide supportive, accurate interpretation for elementary-aged students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Committed to confidentiality and professionalism
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation for an elementary student during class and related school activities
- Collaborate with teaching staff and other professionals to ensure the student’s educational goals and needs are met
- Maintain clear, effective communication between staff, student, and peers
- Participate in school meetings as needed to discuss student progress and interpreter strategies
- Stay current on best practices within educational interpreting
