Step into a meaningful role supporting the educational journey of hearing impaired students in a vibrant school setting near Metairie, LA. This full-time contract opportunity (37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday) runs from ASAP until May 27, 2027, covering the academic calendar. You’ll report directly to the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism within the Student Support Unit and collaborate closely with regular classroom teachers and school staff.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver IEP-directed educational services to hearing impaired students across resource settings.
- Consult with classroom teachers and related staff to ensure tailored support and effective integration for students.
- Guide the acquisition and use of materials and auditory equipment, troubleshooting devices as needed.
- Maintain consistent communication with teachers to develop instructional materials and assessments.
- Provide in-service training for school personnel, enhancing their ability to welcome and include hearing impaired students.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, such as progress notes, IEPs, quarterly reports, and records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your supervisor to ensure student needs are fully met.
Qualifications for success include:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired.
- Minimum of three years’ experience with hearing impaired students in mainstream settings.
- Strong communication, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic sign language.
- Ability to troubleshoot specialized equipment for hearing support, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices.
- Computer competency, particularly with data tracking and educational reporting.
- Commitment to timely credentialing, including fingerprinting and drug screening.
