Step into a rewarding, full-time contract opportunity supporting students with hearing impairments in the New Orleans area. As an Itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, you’ll play a vital role within the Student Support Unit, working closely with a dedicated coordinator and engaging with teachers, staff, and hearing-impaired students to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver IEP-directed instructional services to students with hearing loss in resource settings
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt teaching materials and strategies for hearing-impaired students
- Facilitate services and assess the needs of students with hearing impairments in mainstream classrooms
- Support requests for and troubleshooting of specialized auditory equipment, such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices
- Provide in-service training for school personnel, promoting positive integration and experiences for hearing-impaired students
- Maintain accurate records, prepare progress notes and reports for parents, and complete necessary school documentation
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing and Autism
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired education
- At least 3 years of teaching experience with hearing-impaired students in inclusive settings
- Solid foundation in sign language and effective written/verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and data-driven decision-making abilities
- Professional demeanor with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Experience with diverse student populations and a team-oriented leadership style
- Ability to proficiently use technology for reporting requirements
- Must complete district credentialing, including fingerprinting and drug screening
