You’ll work under the guidance of the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism, providing both direct instruction and essential support across various school sites.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired required
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with hearing-impaired students in regular educational settings
- Proficient in sign language and basic troubleshooting of assistive hearing devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants, etc.)
- Skilled in collaborating with both special education and general education staff to maximize student success
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple competing priorities
- Proficiency with computer-based documentation, including IEPs, progress notes, quarterly reports, and maintenance of student records
- Successful completion of district background check and drug screening required
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide IEP-directed educational services to hearing-impaired students from August through late May
- Facilitate integration and support of students’ needs in general education classrooms
- Consult and collaborate with teachers and school staff to design and adapt instructional materials and assessments
- Offer in-service training to ensure school personnel positively support hearing-impaired students
- Troubleshoot, request, and maintain auditory equipment as needed for student support
- Maintain clear, timely documentation on student progress and provide regular communication with families
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism
