Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students in the Virginia Beach region as a Sign Language Interpreter within the school setting. Engage in meaningful 1:1 work—primarily with elementary-aged children—in a dynamic environment, serving students across various locations based on their needs. This full-time assignment runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027, with a structured Monday through Friday schedule totaling 35 hours each week.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience providing sign language interpretation services in educational environments, preferably working 1:1 with elementary students
- Valid VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III credential required
- Strong preference for Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher—candidates with scores above 3.0, or a QAS score of 3 or better, are welcome to interview
- Comfort interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language and vice versa
- Visaphonics communication experience helpful, but not required
- Flexibility to be assigned to different school sites as student attendance requires
- Proactive communication and the ability to collaborate with multiple educational professionals
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time, effective sign language interpretation between students and school staff during instructional activities
- Support classroom learning, participation, and social interaction through accurate and appropriate interpretation
- Ensure absolute confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Travel within the assigned region to provide coverage if a designated student is absent
