A unique contract opportunity is available for experienced Sign Language Interpreters to work with elementary-aged students in a dynamic educational setting near Portsmouth, VA. This full-time assignment runs from August 25, 2026, through June 15, 2027, encompassing a 35-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. Interpreters in this role provide direct, 1:1 support and may be assigned to various locations within the district, offering meaningful interaction and support to students as needs arise. While Visaphonics is the preferred communication mode, it is not a mandatory requirement.
Qualifications:
- Current VA Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III is required.
- EIPA Score of 3.5 preferred; applicants with a score above 3.0 will be considered for interviews.
- Alternatively, a QAS Score of 3 or higher is accepted.
- Demonstrated experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings, preferably with elementary-aged students.
- Adaptability to work across different campuses within the district.
- Commitment to in-person service (remote or hybrid arrangements are not available).
Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person, 1:1 sign language interpreting for elementary students.
- Adjust to schedule changes and location requests to maximize support and coverage based on student attendance and district needs.
- Facilitate clear and effective communication between students and staff, supporting educational access and inclusion.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district, state, and professional guidelines.
