Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Virginia Beach, VA

Bring your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a rewarding, full-time contract role in the Virginia Beach area for the coming school year. This opportunity allows you to work closely with elementary-aged students on a 1:1 basis, ensuring they have access to clear communication and an enriched educational experience.
You’ll be immersed in school environments where your interpreting skills are valued and needed, offering coverage at different locations if your assigned student is absent. The preferred mode of communication is Visaphonics, though it’s not required, providing flexibility in your approach.
Qualifications:
- Hold Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
- EIPA score of 3.5 preferred; candidates with scores above 3.0 are encouraged to apply
- Alternatively, a QAS score of 3 or higher will be considered
- Demonstrated experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings
- Clear communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to different student needs and learning styles
Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 sign language interpretation for elementary students during the school day
- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Travel to different campuses in the Virginia Beach area to ensure continuous student support
- Collaborate with educational staff to foster inclusive and accessible learning environments
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
You will be engaged in a full-time, Monday through Friday schedule (35 hours per week) from late August through mid-June. This in-person position focuses entirely on onsite support—remote and hybrid options are not available.
