In this engaging contract position, your expertise will directly impact students in grades Pre-K through Middle School, including dedicated 1:1 assignments with pediatric learners. Support classroom instruction and foster inclusive environments where students who are deaf or hard of hearing can thrive academically and socially.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current certification or credentialing in Sign Language Interpreting (such as RID or EIPA)
- Experience working in school settings preferred, especially with pediatric or K-8 student populations
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to interpret classroom instruction and social interactions in various educational environments (Pre-K, Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle School)
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and flexibility when adapting to diverse learning needs
- Collaborative approach with teachers, therapists, and other school staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver 1:1 sign language interpreting services for students from Pre-K through grade 8
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Adapt interpreting style to suit age-appropriate communication and varying classroom activities
- Support classroom participation, field trips, and extracurricular activities as needed
- Work alongside the educational team to ensure students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals are met
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics
