Step into a dynamic role supporting K-12 students as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming school year. This full-time, in-person opportunity based near Poquoson, VA is perfect for professionals eager to make a difference across multiple educational settings. You’ll enjoy a varied schedule working onsite at four different school locations, providing essential communication access for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
This position is ideal for those experienced in sign language interpretation, with the unique chance to collaborate with other support personnel including a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) and a Clinical Fellow (CF). With a school day running approximately 7:30am to 3:00pm, you'll have consistent hours and the satisfaction of meaningful work each day.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 educational settings preferred
- Familiarity with the needs of students at a variety of grade levels
- Ability to adapt communication styles to support different age groups and learning environments
- Strong collaboration skills and professionalism in a team-based environment
- Appropriate certification or licensure for sign language interpretation in educational settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students, staff, and parents as needed
- Facilitate classroom communication, ensuring Deaf or hard of hearing students access instruction and participate fully
- Serve as an itinerant interpreter traveling between four school sites
- Work closely with other professionals, including SLPAs and CFs, to support student achievement
- Attend training or orientation sessions as scheduled in July and start actively in August 2025
