Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in school settings preferred
- Comfortable working with elementary-aged children
- Ability to provide patient, supportive, and encouraging guidance for language learners
- Relevant certifications or state qualification as a Sign Language Interpreter
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate sign language interpretation in a 1:1 setting
- Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and classmates during classroom activities and school events
- Adapt communication style to suit the student’s individual learning needs and pace
- Collaborate with educational staff to support the student’s IEP and learning objectives
- Foster an inclusive, positive atmosphere that encourages language acquisition and confidence
