Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification or appropriate credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and up to date on interpreting best practices
- Prior experience interpreting in educational or school settings is strongly preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster connections with students of diverse backgrounds
- Professionalism, reliability, and adaptability in a school environment
- Ability to follow ethical guidelines and maintain confidentiality at all times
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site interpretation services for students, staff, and meetings as needed within the school
- Facilitate effective communication in mainstream classrooms, assemblies, and school functions
- Interpret classroom lessons, instructions, and discussions to ensure full engagement for assigned students
- Collaborate with teachers, special educators, and administrators to support each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Serve as a cultural and language mediator, promoting understanding of deaf culture and American Sign Language among staff and students
- Assist with any additional interpreting needs as requested by educators or leadership
