Support student success by facilitating meaningful communication in educational settings as a contract Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time opportunity offers approximately 30 hours per week during standard school hours, providing vital sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting for middle and high school students who are hard of hearing or deaf. Work onsite exclusively in a dynamic atmosphere where your skills enhance both academic and social inclusion for students, collaborating closely with educators and school personnel.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or a score of 4.0 or higher on EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment preferred
- Candidates with an EIPA score below 4.0 will be considered as an ASL Para
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting in diverse educational environments
- Ability to assist with academic subjects and support students with vocational or living skills as needed
- Collaborative mindset and adaptability to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Professionalism and reliability in onsite school or community settings
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, accurate interpreting services for hard of hearing and deaf students in both classroom and extracurricular settings
- Assist students in understanding and participating in academic subjects, including reading, writing, and math
- Support students as they develop communication, vocational, and daily living skills
- Supervise and monitor students during school and community activities, ensuring safety and inclusion
- Communicate effectively with classroom teachers and school staff to best support student needs
