Sign Language Interpreter in Paradise, CA
Make a meaningful impact in the educational journey of students who are deaf or hard of hearing as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, onsite contract position supports middle and high school students, fostering communication between students, peers, teachers, and school staff. You'll facilitate both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting, allowing students to fully engage in classroom instruction and activities. Candidates interested in working with a particular age group are encouraged to express their preference.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or higher on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
- Open to candidates with an EIPA score under 4.0; such candidates will be referred to as ASL Para
- Strong ability to interpret in educational settings for middle and/or high school students
- Experience supporting students in academic subjects and life skills
- Expertise in promoting an inclusive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services between deaf/hard of hearing students and their hearing peers and teachers
- Assist with students’ academic growth in core subjects and vocational or living skills
- Monitor student participation during classroom activities, outdoor settings, or community outings
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school personnel to facilitate student engagement and success
- Support student development in both academic and social contexts
