Step into an essential role supporting effective communication and access for students in a dynamic middle school setting. This full-time opportunity places you in a Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program, where your expertise in sign language interpreting will empower students to thrive academically and socially. Located in Hampshire, IL, this contract position focuses on delivering quality interpretation services, ensuring equitable learning experiences within the school environment.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in sign language interpreting, with demonstrated experience in educational settings
  • EIPA score of 3.0 or higher
  • State PEL (Professional Educator License) for interpreting in schools—either active or proof of application in process
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, tailoring interpretation to a variety of classroom situations
  • Professionalism, reliability, and adaptability when working with students, educators, and support staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers, adapting message delivery as required
  • Support students’ participation in both academic and extracurricular activities
  • Collaborate with educators and specialists to provide optimal support
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical practices for interpreters in educational settings
  • Assist in developing accessible materials and resources as needed
