Sign Language Interpreter in Chicago, IL
A unique opportunity awaits an experienced Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. This contract role will allow you to work directly with a high school student on a one-to-one basis, providing vital communication support throughout the school day.
In this position, you’ll be part of a collaborative educational environment located near Chicago, IL, focused on fostering inclusion and student success. You will have a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., creating a balanced workday while making a daily impact.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is required
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting is preferred
- Passion for supporting student growth and communication
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, one-on-one sign language interpretation services for a high school student in classroom and school activities
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between the student and educators, peers, and other staff
- Adapt communication style to support a variety of classroom subjects and extracurricular contexts
- Collaborate with educational staff to best support the student’s learning and social integration
