Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting
- Experience interpreting in academic settings, ideally at the elementary or early childhood level
- Understanding of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the unique communication needs of D/HH students
- Ability to seamlessly facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to be flexible within a classroom setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver accurate, age-appropriate interpretation of classroom instruction, activities, and interactions for a kindergarten student
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and support services to ensure full access to the curriculum
- Foster an inclusive, supportive atmosphere that promotes the student’s language development and participation
- Adapt interpreting style and approach as needed to meet developmental and situational needs
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times while working in the educational setting
