This full-time, onsite contract position covers 35 hours weekly and serves the Virginia Beach area, providing crucial interpreting services in school environments.
As an interpreter, your skills will benefit students, staff, and families across various settings. The role is dynamic—spanning classroom support, meetings involving deaf or hard-of-hearing parents or guardians, and interpreting during extracurricular activities. Flexibility for occasional after-school hours is essential, ensuring full support for all student needs. Virtual or hybrid work is not available; these are strictly in-person positions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting
- Valid licensure: 3.5 EIPA or VQAS Level III preferred
- Consideration for candidates who have passed the EIPA written exam and show strong potential (pending full licensure)
- Experience working with students in K–12 educational settings is valued
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
- Commitment to professional conduct and confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consistent sign language interpretation for students during classroom instruction
- Support communication between school staff, students, and families in meetings or school events
- Offer interpreting services for extracurricular activities, occasionally outside regular hours
- Adapt to multiple school sites as assigned
- Contribute to an accessible and welcoming learning environment
This school-based contract begins August 2026 and runs through June 2027, ensuring a full academic year of enrichment and support for students in need.
