Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Gridley, California
Bring your specialized skills in sign language interpretation to an engaging educational setting as a valued team member supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This full-time contract opportunity (approximately 30 hours per week, 6 hours per day) is available immediately and will continue through the 2026-27 school year. Multiple positions are open for service in middle and high school settings, onsite only.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in sign language interpretation for educational environments
- Current certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment
- Candidates with EIPA scores under 4.0 will be considered for ASL Para roles
- Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students preferred
- Ability to facilitate communication between students, their peers, teachers, and school staff
- Positive attitude, adaptability, and effective communication skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret sign to voice and voice to sign as needed for classroom instruction and daily school interactions
- Support students’ academic engagement in subjects like reading, writing, and math
- Assist students with vocational or daily living skills as appropriate to their Individualized Education Programs
- Supervise, encourage, and monitor students during classroom instruction and in outdoor or community activities
- Collaborate with educational staff to ensure inclusion and participation for all students
- Preference will be given to those with a background or interest in working with either middle or high school students
