Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Clifton Park, New York
Make a difference in a student’s educational journey by providing vital sign language interpreting services throughout the school year. In this contract role, you’ll support an elementary student, ensuring access to learning and social engagement in a welcoming school environment located near Clifton Park, NY. This position is for 32 hours per week and spans the entire academic year, concluding on 6/25/2027.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language and skilled at interpreting in educational settings
- Current EIPA score of 3.5 or higher is highly recommended
- Prior experience working with elementary-age students is preferred
- Ability to collaborate with general and special education teams
- Commitment to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality at all times
- Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for supporting children
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for an elementary student during classroom instruction, school activities, and peer interactions
- Facilitate communication between the student, classmates, teachers, and staff
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the student’s unique learning and social needs
- Support the educational team by offering insights about fostering communication access
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings if needed
- Uphold professional standards, ethics, and school policies
