Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Familiarity with or training to support medically fragile students, or willingness to learn
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliability and the ability to commit to a consistent four-day, four-hour schedule during the school year
- Certification as required per state or educational regulations for Sign Language Interpreters
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation between the student and teachers, staff, and peers
- Aid the student’s communication, adapting interpreting style for a young child in a classroom environment
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including educators and medical staff, to ensure student safety and participation
- Offer support that maintains the student’s dignity while accommodating medical and educational needs
