Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Cypress, TX
Support a thriving high school freshman as a Sign Language Interpreter in a contract position onsite each Friday. This rewarding opportunity involves facilitating communication and educational access for a student who is actively engaged in academics and extracurricular activities, including participating in a school play and progressing in his coursework. The student successfully uses cochlear implants and communicates with the assistance of an ALD device, and the educational team is dedicated to his continued academic and social growth.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current, active license as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience in an academic setting, ideally supporting high school students
- Proficiency with assistive listening devices and understanding of Cochlear Implants
- Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to professional standards and confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a 9th grade student, ensuring full access to all academic content and school events
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to adapt communication as needed, particularly in subjects where the student may require extra support, such as Algebra I
- Adjust interpretation methods to support both academic and social growth, facilitating the student's participation in theater and peer interactions
- Maintain accurate records and uphold professional, ethical standards throughout all interactions
