Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with strong interpreting skills
- Previous experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school environment
- Familiarity with educational terminology and IEP processes is a plus
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC) preferred
- High level of adaptability and strong interpersonal skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation between staff, students, and parents in classroom and school settings
- Support students’ academic, extracurricular, and social participation by accurately conveying spoken language and signed communication
- Collaborate with educators and school teams to address students’ visual communication needs
- Assist in preparing or adapting materials for accessibility as needed
- Maintain a professional and respectful presence within all school activities, meetings, and events
- Foster an environment that values diversity and accessibility for all learners
