Desired Experience & Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Prior experience interpreting within educational or school settings.
- Current state or national certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with teachers, students, and school staff.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in all situations.
- Adaptability to interpret across various grade levels as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language to ASL and vice versa for students and school personnel in classrooms and other educational settings.
- Accurately convey lessons, discussions, and directions to promote student participation and inclusion.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to support student progress and access to curriculum.
- Prepare for upcoming lessons or content, ensuring accurate and contextually appropriate interpretation.
- Maintain ethical standards and adhere to all policies regarding privacy, student rights, and school protocols.
- Support the social and academic success of students through clear and effective communication.
