Essential Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC)
- Previous experience interpreting in educational settings is highly valued
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice
- Flexibility to respond to dynamic school schedules and student needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one in-classroom interpretation for a student requiring ASL support
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers in instructional and non-instructional settings
- Interpret both spoken and signed communications in real-time with accuracy
- Assist in preparing materials for interpretation when necessary
- Participate in IEP meetings or staff consultations as requested
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to educational privacy requirements
