Step into a meaningful contract opportunity supporting high school students as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter. Located near Elgin, IL, this role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about fostering communication access and inclusion within an educational environment. You'll work afternoons from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM each school day, with the assignment running from your start date through May 21, 2027.
Required Qualifications:
- State of Illinois licensure specific to Sign Language Interpretation
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience interpreting in a school or youth setting
- Knowledge of district or state requirements, such as PEL or Para Cert, if applicable
- Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality
- Ability to adapt to students’ diverse needs and collaborate with educational staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation services for high school students during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their peers, and educators
- Adapt interpreting style to match the educational and cultural settings
- Ensure compliance with all applicable school, district, and state guidelines
- Engage actively in team meetings and contribute valuable insights regarding student support
- Maintain detailed, confidential logs of interpreting services as needed
