In this vital 1:1 role, you will foster access, inclusion, and communication during the school day, helping a 6th-grade learner engage, participate, and succeed.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a strong grasp of interpreting for educational settings.
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably working with children or within school environments.
- Understanding of the needs of students using cochlear implants is highly desirable.
- Professional certification or licensure as required by state guidelines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to student-centered support.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct 1:1 interpreting services to a 6th-grade student from 7:35 am to 2:20 pm each scheduled school day, ensuring seamless communication in the classroom and during school activities.
- Support the student’s participation in academic discussions, group work, and extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education staff to adapt communication approaches as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Foster an inclusive educational environment, advocating for accessible learning experiences.
