Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Fort Myers, Florida
Step into a rewarding role supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an elementary school setting. This full-time contract position is based on-site and offers the opportunity to work closely with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, making a significant impact on their educational journey.
You’ll be part of a dedicated educational team, providing expert sign language interpretation for students, staff, and faculty throughout the academic year. Your core focus will be facilitating effective communication, ensuring accessibility, and helping students thrive in their learning environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Current 3.0 EIPA score or higher
- Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school setting
- Understanding of the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Successful completion of required fingerprinting; previous FL school district prints may be transferable via the AHCA Clearinghouse. JLA badge processing may take up to 10 business days after clearance.
- Professionalism, flexibility, and responsiveness to dynamic school needs
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate sign language interpretation for DHH students in classroom and group settings
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to enhance lesson accessibility
- Adapt interpreting techniques to fit individual student needs and grade levels
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
- Support student participation during classes, school activities, and events
