Experience a rewarding role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in an elementary school setting. This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by working 1:1 and with small groups of Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) students. The assignment runs from August 11, 2026, through May 27, 2027, and is based entirely on-site.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Current Sign Language Interpreter certification
- 3.0 or higher score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
- Experience working with DHH children in a school environment is highly desirable
- Ability to communicate proficiently in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Familiarity with IEPs and educational accommodations for DHH students
- Must complete fingerprinting requirements before starting; prior Florida school district fingerprints may remain valid if accessible via the AHCA Clearinghouse
- Preparedness to obtain a JLA badge (may take up to 10 business days once prints are approved)
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, activities, assemblies, and other school functions for DHH students
- Provide direct interpretation services for 1:1 assignments as well as in group settings
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure DHH students fully participate in academic and extracurricular activities
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards at all times
- Adapt communication style to match student needs and learning goals
- Track and document services according to district requirements
