Make a significant impact supporting a kindergarten student as an onsite Sign Language Interpreter in a school-based setting. This full-time contract runs through June 2027 and offers a unique hybrid opportunity: you’ll provide essential 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting to a young learner one day per week initially, with the remaining days spent assisting as a paraprofessional until the student transitions to five days of in-classroom support.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana Sign Language Interpreter certification (or meeting requirements with a test date in place)
- Minimum EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5, with written assessment passed or scheduled
- Experience supporting young children in educational settings, ideally at the kindergarten level
- Flexible, team-oriented mindset and commitment to fostering student success in diverse classroom environments
- Comfortable working both as an interpreter and as a classroom paraprofessional as needed
- Ability to be fully onsite throughout the week
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver dedicated 1:1 ASL support to a kindergarten student new to the district
- Serve as a classroom paraprofessional when not interpreting, assisting teachers with classroom activities and supporting student learning
- Collaborate seamlessly with educators, related service providers, and families to ensure the student’s needs are met
- Participate in IEP or student planning meetings as appropriate
- Adjust schedule and responsibilities as the student transitions to more classroom time
