A unique opportunity is available for a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to support a Kindergarten student requiring 1:1 ASL services within a school environment. This contract position offers the chance to provide meaningful communication support to a young learner, with potential for expanded interpreting hours as the student transitions to a full classroom schedule.
Key Qualifications:
- SLI Certification valid in Indiana
- Minimum 3.5 EIPA score; candidates with an active written test date in process may be considered with proper documentation
- Experience providing ASL interpretation in early childhood or K-12 educational settings
- Ability to work collaboratively within a school team and adapt roles (paraprofessional duties included)
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the capacity to support students with varying needs
- Must be available to work onsite
Position Details & Responsibilities:
- Full-time contract, beginning as soon as possible through June 4th, 2027
- Support 1:1 ASL interpretation for a Kindergarten student new to the district, one day per week through December
- During the remainder of each week, fulfill paraprofessional responsibilities to assist within the classroom or broader school community
- Hours anticipated to increase for ASL services as the student transitions to a regular classroom schedule
- Maintain professional communication with staff, administrators, and the student's family
- Ensure compliance with district and state guidelines for educational support services
