Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Hold a valid Sign Language Interpreter Certification in California (SLI CERT in CA)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting abilities
- Previous experience in an educational setting preferred, but all passionate interpreters are welcome
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster trusting relationships
- Able to adapt to dynamic classroom environments and collaborate with multiple team members
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for students, educators, and families, facilitating effective communication in classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities
- Promote student engagement by ensuring access to classroom discussions, directions, and activities
- Work closely with educational and support staff to implement IEPs and recommended accommodations
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sensitivity at all times
- Stay current with best practices and participate in professional development opportunities
