Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Hold a valid Sign Language Interpreter Certification in California (SLI CERT in CA)
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting abilities
  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred, but all passionate interpreters are welcome
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster trusting relationships
  • Able to adapt to dynamic classroom environments and collaborate with multiple team members

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreting services for students, educators, and families, facilitating effective communication in classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities
  • Promote student engagement by ensuring access to classroom discussions, directions, and activities
  • Work closely with educational and support staff to implement IEPs and recommended accommodations
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sensitivity at all times
  • Stay current with best practices and participate in professional development opportunities
