Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (national or state-level)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Prior experience as an educational interpreter or working with DHH students is highly valued
- Strong professionalism, reliability, and organizational skills
- Ability to foster inclusivity and confidentiality while working one-on-one with students
Position Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL for a DHH student during classes and school activities
- Accurately convey lectures, directions, and discussions between staff, students, and the DHH student
- Support the student’s engagement and independence in both instructional and classroom activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other service providers to modify communication based on student needs
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to professional and ethical standards
- Participate in pre-session meetings or training with teachers to prepare for daily assignments
This role offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, totaling 30 hours per week. The position is on-site at a Head Start center, providing the opportunity to work closely with a single student and make a direct difference in their educational experience.
