What you’ll bring:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with demonstrated experience in educational settings
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) score of 3.5 or higher, or a score of 3.0 with ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) approval
- ISBE certification (or eligibility with appropriate approval)
- Ability to interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and a professional approach
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in interpreting
Key responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classes, assemblies, meetings, and school events
- Partner with teachers, staff, and students to support academic and social participation
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing instructional materials in advance
- Foster a supportive and respectful atmosphere for all students
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with school policies and regulations
- Participate in professional development and team meetings as required
