Sign Language Interpreter in Rochelle, IL
Bring your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter to a rewarding, contract opportunity supporting students in northwest Illinois. Three talented interpreters are needed full-time, working five days per week, to ensure clear and meaningful communication within the school setting. Key Qualifications:
- Holds a 3.5 or higher certification, or a 3.0 with ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) approval
- ISBE certification required (or ability to secure approval with 3.0 certification)
- Proven skills in interpreting spoken English into American Sign Language and vice versa
- Demonstrated experience interpreting in educational environments is strongly preferred
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics in every interaction
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing during classes, school events, and meetings
- Foster accessibility by conveying classroom instruction and facilitating interaction among students and staff
- Adjust communication style and techniques to the age and needs of students
- Collaborate with teachers and education teams to support student learning goals
- Accurately interpret lessons, discussions, and directions in real time
