Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Harvey, Louisiana
Step into a pivotal role supporting students with hearing impairments in an engaging school-based contract position. This full-time opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful difference, collaborating with dedicated educators and specialists to facilitate inclusive education. As part of an innovative team, you’ll report directly to the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing, and Autism in the Student Support unit, serving as an Itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired. You will be instrumental in both providing direct IEP-driven instruction for students and consulting with teachers to maximize learning potential across educational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver resource-level instruction for hearing impaired students in accordance with IEPs.
- Work closely with regular classroom teachers, aiding in preparation of teaching materials and tests to support inclusion.
- Consult and facilitate services for hearing impaired students in mainstream settings.
- Coordinate requests for appropriate materials and auditory equipment.
- Provide in-service training to school personnel, ensuring positive school environments for hearing impaired learners.
- Maintain accurate records, including IEPs, progress notes, and quarterly reports.
- Troubleshoot hearing assistance technology such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, sound field systems, and assistive devices.
- Adapt and perform additional duties as directed by the Coordinator.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired (or equivalent in home state).
- At least 3 years’ experience educating hearing impaired students in regular classroom settings.
- Prior experience with VOCO platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
- Excellent communication and collaborative abilities with diverse teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Basic proficiency in sign language and computer skills for documentation.
- Successful completion of fingerprinting and drug screening per district requirements.
