Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Ipswich, MA
Step into a meaningful role assisting students by providing expert sign language interpreting services within a supportive school setting. This full-time contract opportunity offers a chance to make a powerful impact for both the upcoming 5-week Extended School Year (ESY) session and the following academic year. You’ll begin as soon as possible, joining a dedicated team helping students thrive.
In this position, you will support a student currently engaged with a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), already using an FM system and cochlear implants. Your specialized skills will make a significant difference in their access to instruction and social interactions.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working in educational settings as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Familiarity with students utilizing FM systems and cochlear implants
- Credentialing as a Sign Language Interpreter (as required by state guidelines)
- Strong collaboration skills to partner with Teachers of the Deaf and other education professionals
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in all assignments
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities to ensure full student participation
- Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and school personnel
- Collaborate with the instructional team to provide seamless support, adapting to evolving student needs
- Assist in modifying or clarifying instructional content as directed by educators and specialists
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, adhering to best practices and legal requirements
