Make a real impact in educational settings by utilizing your expertise in sign language to support students as a contracted, full-time interpreter. This assignment begins as soon as possible and extends over a 5-week Extended School Year (ESY) program, with services continuing throughout the next academic year.

As a Sign Language Interpreter, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring access and inclusion for a student who currently works closely with a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD) and uses an FM system along with cochlear implants. Your daily presence will facilitate seamless communication and access to the curriculum, promoting academic growth and school engagement.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills in K-12 educational environments
  • RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification or state equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience interpreting for students utilizing cochlear implants and FM systems is a plus
  • Familiarity collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf or other special education professionals
  • Ability to adjust communication methods according to student needs
  • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interpreting services during classroom instruction, small group sessions, and school activities for the assigned student
  • Collaborate effectively with school staff, including the TOD, to support student communication goals
  • Assist in the adaptation of materials or instructions if necessary for clarity and comprehension
  • Foster an encouraging environment that helps the student participate fully in academic and social activities
