We are seeking a dedicated professional to serve as an Itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, providing essential sign language interpreting and educational services in a full-time, contract role featuring 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, aligned to the school calendar.
As part of the Student Support Unit, you will report to the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing and Autism and collaborate with regular education teachers to ensure hearing-impaired students reach their fullest academic potential. Your instructional expertise and commitment to accessibility will directly impact the educational journeys of your students.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired (required)
- Valid teaching license in state of residence
- 3+ years’ experience educating hearing-impaired students in a regular education setting
- Previous VOCO experience is essential
- Comfort with sign language and ability to facilitate communication in diverse settings
- Proficiency in troubleshooting hearing aids, cochlear implants, sound field systems, and other assistive devices
- Strong analytical skills and experience using both quantitative and qualitative data
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities
- Computer literacy with experience maintaining IEPs, reports, progress notes, and school records
- Proven ability to collaborate and manage multiple priorities in a professional school environment
- Fingerprinting and drug screening required
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver IEP-driven instructional and consultative services to hearing-impaired students
- Facilitate integration and support of students within regular education environments
- Request, deploy, and troubleshoot relevant auditory and instructional equipment
- Train school personnel to foster inclusive and accessible classroom experiences
- Maintain comprehensive student records and provide routine communication to parents and school staff
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative culture focused on student success
