As an Educational Sign Language Interpreter, you'll play a pivotal role in helping students engage fully in the classroom. Your expertise will support both daily interaction and the evaluation process, ensuring every learner has a voice.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- SLI certification or equivalent credentials, with the skills to interpret in educational settings
- 0-3 years’ experience considered, though advanced experience is valued
- Familiarity with hybrid or in-person school environments
- Comfortable providing interpretation for both deaf/hard-of-hearing students and those with additional communication challenges
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration abilities to work with teachers, staff, and evaluation teams
- Passion for promoting inclusivity and removing barriers to learning
Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpreting during classroom instruction, activities, and one-on-one support
- Facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers
- Adapt interpreting style to both individual and group needs, including for non-verbal students in the SAILS and STEPs programs
- Contribute to evaluations by offering accurate, professional support in assessment contexts
- Maintain confidentiality and safeguard student privacy at all times
