Pediatric 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter in Tacoma, WA

Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience working with pediatric populations (ages Pre-K to Middle School), especially in school settings
- Ability to provide 1:1 interpretation and facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Strong understanding of IEPs and educational best practices for deaf and hard of hearing students
- Adaptable and patient communicator comfortable in dynamic classroom environments
- Professional certification or credentialing to interpret in educational settings (as required by state regulation)
- Excellent collaboration and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time, clear ASL interpretation to support student access to classroom instruction and peer interactions
- Work closely with individuals or small groups, adapting style as needed for various grade levels (K-5, Middle School, Pre-K)
- Assist teachers and special education staff in implementing strategies that foster inclusion and engagement
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to documentation on student progress, as appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold all district and ethical standards in interactions
- Serve as an advocate and positive role model for students using sign language to communicate
