Step into a pivotal role supporting students as an itinerant specialist for the hearing impaired in a vibrant school environment near Metairie, LA. This full-time, contract position offers an exciting opportunity to impact students’ education and life skills, working closely with learners from a variety of grade levels. You will serve as a key collaborator alongside teachers and allied staff, directly guiding educational strategies and inclusivity for hearing impaired students.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing IEP-directed educational services for hearing impaired students.
- Facilitating resources and identifying support needs within the regular classroom setting.
- Collaborating with teachers for material and test preparation, ensuring effective accommodations.
- Maintaining regular communication with educational staff and families regarding progress and support strategies.
- Conducting in-service training for school personnel to foster an inclusive environment for hearing impaired learners.
- Troubleshooting specialized equipment such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices.
- Managing records, including IEPs, progress notes, quarterly reports, and essential data in a timely and organized fashion.
- Performing additional duties as assigned to promote the success of students.
Ideal candidates possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree, plus Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired education.
- Three or more years of experience teaching hearing impaired students in mainstream educational settings.
- Basic proficiency in sign language and strong communication skills across diverse situations.
- Analytical decision-making skills and comfort with educational data.
- A collaborative and professional demeanor, with proven ability in multitasking and prioritizing.
- Familiarity in troubleshooting technology and equipment for hearing impaired learners.
- Computer literacy and experience maintaining student documentation.
- The ability to complete district-required fingerprinting and drug screening prior to starting.
