A rewarding opportunity awaits for a dedicated professional to make a difference as an Itinerant Teacher of the Hearing Impaired in a contract role starting as soon as possible through May 27, 2027. This full-time position offers 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, aligned with the local school calendar.
In this role, you will empower hearing impaired students by providing IEP-directed educational services, facilitating their integration into mainstream classrooms, and serving as a resource for colleagues. Expect to work closely with the Coordinator of Speech, Hearing and Autism as you travel between assigned schools, delivering targeted instruction, consulting with teachers, and troubleshooting specialized equipment.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver instruction to resource-level hearing impaired students as outlined in their IEPs
- Serve as a consultant to regular education teachers and other staff to ensure best practices and accommodations
- Request and manage auditory equipment and materials necessary for student success
- Maintain regular communication and collaborate with classroom teachers, assisting in materials and test preparation
- Design and implement in-service training that supports school personnel in fostering an inclusive environment
- Keep thorough documentation, including IEPs, progress notes to parents, quarterly reports, and school records
- Uphold professionalism, confidentiality, and flexibility in managing multiple priorities
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and Louisiana teacher’s certification in Hearing Impaired (required)
- Licensed to teach in the candidate’s home state
- Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting hearing impaired students in regular education settings
- Previous VOCO experience
- Proficiency in basic sign language and troubleshooting hearing-specific equipment
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to pass local fingerprint and drug screening
- Comfortable using basic computer applications for recordkeeping and communication
